When you’re looking at spy cameras, it’s easy to get lost among the sea of options. There are hundreds, if not thousands of models out there, and they’re usually pretty different from each other. Whether they have a different design, or come with different functionalities that set them apart, it’s difficult to find a combination that works good for you. Check our best spy cameras here.
Well, there are some that stand out, and not in a negative way. What if you could have a tiny spy camera, with great video quality and a great selection of features, for a pretty reasonable price? What if, to add to that, you could have it come with a good, well thought out design and a couple of accessories that make using it an even better experience?
Yes, we’ve got such an option for you. We’re talking about the AOBO spy camera, which is one of the smallest cameras we’ve seen, yet manages not to compromise on any of the crucial features when it comes to surveillance cameras. If this has you interested, and you’re in the market for one, by all means read on, we’re sure you’re going to love it.
Let’s kick things off with the design
Starting off on the outside, the AOBO spy camera is really tiny, at 1.3 x 0.5 x 0.8 inches. Yes, that tiny. It has a circular design, and basically the entire front is the camera’s lens, as well as the IR LEDs that help it at night, but more on that later. The compact design means that you can hide it pretty much anywhere, since it’s almost impossible to see unless you know you’re looking for it.
Now, for some, this may pose a problem. How are you going to set up such a camera? Well, AOBO thought of that, and you’ve got two options. One of them is to put it on a stand, and have it point towards the area you’re recording. With a wide field of view, this shouldn’t be an issue. The other one, and this is where it gets interesting, is to put it on the included wrist strap. Yes, AOBO give you a wrist strap that basically lets you use the camera as a wrist watch, and have it record while you’re wearing it. We have yet to see this from any other manufacturer, and while the uses are limited this way, it’s certainly innovative. Oh, and lest we forget, the camera does have a magnet inside. This allows you to just stick it to any metal surface and have it record. Pretty neat.
Aside from this, you’ll also get the micro USB port on the outside, which is what you’ll use to charge the spy camera. Speaking of charging and batteries, you have a 350mAh battery inside, and it’s a rechargeable lithium-ion model. It keeps the camera running for around 60 minutes, which isn’t particularly impressive. However, when you consider the size of it, we don’t expect much more. The micro USB port however can let you use it with a 10,000mAh power bank, which extends the recording time to around 30 hours. Or, if even that’s not enough, you can plug it in a wall outlet, and have it record 24/7.
Video quality and extra features
With the design out of the way, let’s discuss the other highly important thing here – the video quality. The AOBO comes with 1920 x 1080 video at 30 frames per second, which is nothing less than what we’d expect from a good spy camera. To add to this, videos are recorded with an ultra wide angle lens that has a 150 degree field of view. With the competition usually stopping at around 110 or 130 degrees, this is pretty impressive.
Even at night, you won’t get any quality loss. The camera comes with six IR LEDs that have a maximum range of 15 feet, so even footage that’s been recorded in pitch black scenarios will be surprisingly usable. IR LEDs are invisible to the human eye, so you don’t have to worry about them giving away the placement of your camera.
Another great functionality of the AOBO is the fact that this is a Wi-Fi enabled camera. Therefore, the footage that you capture doesn’t have to be transferred to a computer for you to see it. You can just use an app to connect to it, and you’ve got a great overview of what’s happening from the comfort of your smartphone or computer. You can also enable or disable the IR LEDs via the app, too.
Last but certainly not least, the AOBO has motion detection. With other cameras, you will need to have them record continuously in order to capture what you need to have on video. With the AOBO, all you have to do is switch on motion detection, and it will only record when there’s motion in front of it. This doesn’t only save battery and storage, but also saves you from having to scrub through hours of footage just to get to those 15 minutes you actually need.
Who is the AOBO spy camera for?
If you’re a user who wants a big surveillance camera that will record continuously for days, but don’t care about it being concealed, this isn’t for you. However, if you want a small one, that you can tuck in anywhere (or wear on your wrist, apparently), this might be the perfect choice.
It comes with excellent video quality, as well as all the functionality you might need from it – night vision, motion detection, Wi-Fi, an ultra wide angle, etc. If you want a spy camera that you can hide somewhere and have it record if something is happening in your home, or office, or anywhere else for that matter, the AOBO is just perfect for you.
