When you’ve got a home, or an office, or a home office, that you want to add a touch of surveillance to, there are a few ways to do this. The most obvious one, and the one most people resort to, is to set up conventional surveillance cameras so you have an idea of what’s going on. However, that’s not the smartest thing to do, because if someone intends on causing trouble, they’ll watch out for those cameras.
Therefore, there’s a better solution – a camera that people won’t be able to see. There are a few ways to do this as well, but the most popular one is to get a surveillance camera that looks just like a conventional everyday household object. You’ll find many of them, and they come in various shapes and sizes, but arguably the best way to go is an alarm clock hidden camera.

Resolution: 1920x1080p Full HD
Field of view: 140 degrees
And when you’ve decided you want one, the MCSTREE Hidden Camera in Clock is the one you should get. You might be wondering why that, out of so many options, so we’ll take a look at it below and tell you.
The MCSTREE Hidden Camera in Clock on the outside
With this type of camera, there’s one thing that it must do, and do well. It must be able to look inconspicuous, and attract the least attention possible. And this one does it remarkably. To begin with, on the outside it’s an all-black design. It only has one white rim at the front, which also holds the glass in place. That glass is actually made in a way so that it’s completely transparent on the outside, but the lens and IR LEDs can get through it easily. This is exactly why nobody can see the lens and LEDs from the outside, yet the video quality is unaffected.
Aside from this, the design is pretty simple. You have the digital clock at the front, as well as two buttons at the top, labeled Plus and Set. They’re what you’ll use to set the clock up. It’s actually pretty simple, and as we mentioned, it looks just like a clock – exactly the point.
What about the camera?
The camera itself is located to the left of the clock, when you’re facing the lock. It’s a fairly small lens, and behind the glass, it’s impossible to notice. This isn’t a cheap camera with mediocre video. Instead, you have a sensor that’s capable of recording video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is more than most of the competition is offering. The videos are smooth and there’s plenty of details. If, however, you would prefer to keep things down in terms of resolution, you can set it to 720p or 640p in order to save a bit room on the memory card.
What’s also impressive about the camera is its field of view. With most cameras that are hidden in household objects, you often get a narrow field of view that leaves you with a pretty useless device. You won’t be able to place five teddy bears around your room just to cover all angles, right? Well, you also can’t place five clocks, and MCSTREE thought of that. That’s why they included a 140 degree lens, which actually captures a massive part of the scene. If placed carefully, you can easily cover a big part of a room. (1)
Oh, and one more thing. The IR LEDs we mentioned earlier? They’ll allow you to record video even when it’s pitch black. There are 6 LEDs, and they’ll illuminate the scene in a way the lens captures, but the human eye doesn’t see. This means that the MCSTREE Hidden Camera in Clock is just as useful during the night as it is during the day.
Is there any extra functionality worth noting?
Well, of course there is, or we wouldn’t be recommending it. To begin with, this is a Wi-Fi camera. What that means is that it’s going to connect to your home’s wireless network in order to get internet access. The camera doesn’t do much by itself like this, but it does enable you to connect to it via that network from wherever you are. All you need to do is download a simple app on your iOS or Android device, and you can connect to it to see what’s happening in the room where you have the camera installed.
Another thing that we feel we must mention is the motion detection. When you’ve got a conventional camera, you should have it record all the time if you want it to capture anything happening. But with a smaller SD card, that’s going to leave you with little room for footage, especially at high quality. With the MCSTREE, that won’t be necessary. You can just turn on motion detection, and you’ll find that the camera only records when there is movement in front of it. That way, you will only have what you actually need, and no hours of footage when nothing is happening.
Last but not least, it also has loop recording which is a notable thing. Regardless of the memory card size, it will fill up at some point. And when it does, you don’t want it to stop recording, because that means you’ll lose footage. Instead, you want it to overwrite the oldest, unnecessary footage, and still save the newest one because you might need it. And that’s exactly what loop recording does.
Is it worth it?
If you take everything into consideration, yes, the MCSTREE Hidden Camera in Clock is more than worth it. It’s impossible to discover, it records very high quality video, and it has a host of additional features that will come in handy in a variety of situations.
