It’s more or less a trend for hidden spy cameras to disguise themselves as common household objects. And who doesn’t have a wall charger at home? Therefore, a 1080p HD mini USB wall charger hidden spy camera isn’t at all far fetched, and is instead a pretty great idea. But it seems like a lot of manufacturers have figured this out, and now we’ve got a host of options out there, which makes the choice confusing for many.
So, if you’re one of those people who want one, but aren’t sure what to pick, you’re at the right place. We will not only talk about how they work and what you should be careful about when buying, but we’ll also give you three excellent options that you can choose from. They’re all priced similarly, but they do have a few things that set them apart. After going through countless product reviews, we concluded a list of the best USB spy cameras. Now, without wasting anymore of your time, let’s take a look at some things you should keep an eye out for when buying.
Field of view: 90 degrees
Recording time: 6 hours
Our top pick is Fibotech’s 1080p HD mini USB wall charger hidden spy camera. It does all the things you need it do to, and it does them very well, at a price that’s not the highest one on the list. It also includes a great set of extras, so you don’t need to spend anything more than the price of the camera itself.
To begin with, the camera records full HD video at 1080p. The 90 degree field of view is pretty decent, and you won’t get any distortion or issues with the image. It’s actually a great combination. When you add to that motion detection, you find that you’ve got an excellent feature set. Motion detection will make sure that no movement goes unrecorded, so you know that if something happens, you’ll have it on camera.
The design is great. It might not be as compact as some of the other options, but you can be sure that people won’t mistake it for anything else, because it’s easy to hide. The lens is right below the USB slot, so you can plug in a cable going upwards, and the lens will be completely hidden and out of sight.
Last but not least, the extras you get here are excellent. Not only will you get a cable to transfer data, but you also get a cable to charge devices that use micro USB and Lightning, as well as a micro SD card with a 32GB capacity and a card reader. It’s got everything you need – all you’ve got to do is plug it in and tell it to record.
Since there’s no indicator light here, it doesn’t attract any attention, and is overall the best pick on our list. With a reasonable price, and excellent set of features, this is the one to get if you want the best out there.
Best Motion Detection
Field Of view: 90 degrees
Storage: Up to 32GB
IQ Motion Detection
Our runner up comes from DIVINEEAGLE, and even though it does include motion detection tech that’s a lot better than our top pick, it’s the price difference that puts it in third place. Aside from that, it’s a compact wall charger that’s easy to hide and works just like a regular charger when you don’t need it to record anything.
Video is recorded at 1080p, and the viewing angle is decent. Nothing to write home about, but it’ll do the job. To add to that, you’ve got a fast setup that doesn’t require Wi-Fi. All you’ve got to do is insert a micro SD card, which unfortunately is not included, and provide power, and it’s going to record. What’s interesting is that you don’t have to have it plugged into a wall outlet – the DIVINEEAGLE will work if you connect it to a power bank, too. (1)
Let’s talk about that motion detection. While many other competitors’ products do have it, the DIVINEEAGLE’s comes with 130 points, which is impressive. This allows it to capture even the slightest movement, which is very nice and pretty much ahead of the entire competition. If motion detection is something you require, by all means go for the DIVINEEAGLE.
The extras in the box are a pretty good set, too. While you don’t get a memory card, you will get charging cables for both micro USB and Lightning devices, so you can charge your Android or iOS smartphone while the camera is recording. You won’t get fast charging, but it does do the job, especially if your main goal is to just further disguise the camera. Overall, if you want the best there is in terms of motion detection, without corners being cut on other aspects, this is the 1080p HD mini USB wall charger hidden spy camera to go for. Field of view: 90 degrees
Storage: Up to 128GB
Last but not least, we have another option, this time by Facamworld. It’s a very compact wall charger that takes a slightly different approach. Since it’s quite a bit smaller, the lens is at the front, but the USB port itself is at the bottom. While this does take away some of the “hiding” possibilities for the camera, the lens is basically invisible so you’ll have no issues at all.
To begin with, you can expect 1080p video from the Facamworld, with a pretty good quality. There is also motion detection that works at up to 15 feet in good lighting, so if anything moves, you’ll know immediately. Unfortunately, there’s no Wi-Fi so don’t expect alerts on your phone.
Where it beats the competition is the memory department. While the other two options were limited to 32GB memory cards, this one accepts up to 128GB, which is impressive to say the least. There isn’t one included, however, so it’s going to cost you a pretty penny, but it’s still a nice addition.
Last but not least, we were pretty happy with how the Facamworld works as a conventional wall charger. The USB port at the bottom works at 5V/2A, which is pretty good and should charge most devices fairly quickly. Again, it’s no fast charging, but that’s not the main point of the camera.
If you’re looking at a spy camera wall charger that charges fast, gets you excellent quality video, and has plenty of room for storage, this is the one to go for.
How do you choose one?
The first thing you’ll need to know in order to choose right, is how these work. Basically, when you get a smartphone or another similar device, you often get a wall charger and a cable in the box. That’s how you charge the device. Well, these cameras aim to replace that wall charger, and most of them do so with high success rates. The lens is usually located right below the USB port, and you can hide it pretty well if you just plug a cable in.
With that in mind, the first thing you’ll want to know here is the viewing angle. Since most wall outlets are placed pretty low, you’ll have to put the charger there as well. With a narrow viewing angle, you’ll be significantly limited in this regard. A wider one, however, will help you quite a bit and will show you a larger part of the scene, which is where you want to be.
Next up, we’ve got video quality. With most of these cameras, even with budget ones, you’ve got a standard – 1080p. You might come across some more budget oriented models that only record at 720p, but the price differences are often negligible, making the upgrade to 1080p very much worth it. Some will also come with improved night time recording features, so you can capture footage even when there is little to no light.
Another thing that’s worth looking at is how useful the USB port is. This goes a long way towards hiding the camera – having a device plugged in and charging will remove any doubt that this is, in fact, a wall charger. However, you shouldn’t expect things like fast charging, for example. Too much of the electronics inside are usually focused on the camera itself, and fast charging isn’t a possibility. Some will charge faster than others, though, so do note that as well.
Last but not least, we’ve got the extras included. At this price, paying extra for cables and a memory card might make things a touch more expensive than you’d like to, so it’s a good idea to get one that has everything – such as our top pick. A memory card is what you’ use to store the footage on, and you can use the included cables to charge devices that you would connect to the camera. Here’s a how to guide on USB flash drive spy cameras.
